Good trip overall, minor issues

I booked the 'British Isles cruises' on the Ambience ship last spring. The booking process online was pretty smooth, I found the cabin options clearly laid out. I had an Ocean view cabin, which was clean and comfortable. Delivery of the cruise documents was timely, about 3 weeks before sailing. Onboard, the quality of the food in the main dining room was decent, though not spectacular. I did try a specialty dining package one evening, and that was a noticeable step up. Usability of the ship itself was fine, easy to navigate. I had a question about a shore excursion in Dublin and used their online chat support; they responded within an hour, which was helpful. My only minor gripe was that the Wi-Fi signal was a bit spotty in certain areas of the ship, which was a little frustrating when trying to check emails. Otherwise, it was a pleasant trip.

Consistently good experiences

I've been on a few Ambassador cruises now. This time it was a 'Norwegian Fjords cruises' trip on the Ambition, and it was just as enjoyable as my previous 'Mediterranean cruises' booking. They're very consistent. I always get an inside cabin and find them perfectly adequate. The staff are reliably friendly and the entertainment is generally good. I keep coming back because I know what to expect and they deliver. No surprises, which is what I like in a cruise.

Solid value for a first cruise

This was my first time booking with Ambassador, I got a good early booking discount on a 'Short break cruises' from Liverpool. I was watching prices for a while and felt this was the best deal going. I also looked into a drinks package but decided against it to save some money, and I think that was a good call for a short trip. The overall cost felt very fair for what I got. It definitely felt worth the purchase for a quick getaway, especially since I sailed from a port close to home, saving on travel to the port.

Easy booking, good ship

Booked a 'Canary Islands cruises' on Ambience. Website was easy to use. Ship was nice, clean. Food was good. Got my documents on time. No problems, happy with the cruise.

How's the drinks package on these ships? Is it worth it or should I just pay as I go?

D David Brooks 1 month ago
Depends on how much you drink, honestly. I found it was worth it for me since I like a few G&Ts in the evening, but if you only have one or two, maybe not.

I usually just pay as I go. The prices aren't too bad onboard, and I don't drink enough to justify the package cost, personally.

Just wondering if they sail out of Liverpool often? I'd rather not have to trek all the way down to Tilbury.

R Rosa A. 1 month ago
Yep, Liverpool's one of their main departure points, along with a few others up north. Should be plenty of options from there.

They do! I went on one from Liverpool last year, it was super convenient.

Are these cruises like, strictly for older folks? I'm 45 and thinking of going with my mum, don't want it to be totally dead.

It's definitely geared more towards the over 50s, but not exclusively. You'll see some younger people, especially if you go during school holidays or on a shorter trip. It's not a party boat, but it's not super quiet either.

My parents go and they say there are definitely people in their 40s/50s, especially on the shorter ones. It's more about relaxing than wild nightlife.

Can you use a Blue Light Card for a discount? My sister works for the NHS and might be interested.

B Ben 3 weeks ago
Pretty sure they do! I remember seeing that mentioned somewhere when I was booking.

Yes, they definitely offer a Blue Light Card discount. Tell her to check their site, it's usually applied during checkout.

Thinking of booking a cruise for next summer. Is it worth it to try and get an early bird deal, or do they have good last-minute stuff too?

T Troy Q. 1 month ago
Definitely go for early bird if you can, the discounts are usually way better, like 30-40% sometimes. Plus you get more choice of cabins.

Yeah, I saw some good last-minute prices once, but it's a bit of a gamble. For a specific trip, early booking is safer.
